How does the Tournament work?

Rules and Format

  • Pairs (teams of 2 players) will compete over 3 rounds
  • Each team of 2 will remain the same for all 3 rounds, i.e. participants may not change playing partners at any stage
  • There will be a different format for each round.
  • Daily prizes and overall championship prizes
  • The overall championship prizes will be determined by a weighted points format – dependent on where each pair finish in each round – similar to the FedEx Cup system used on the US PGA Tour
  • The full points system and allocation will be detailed on the website when the draw for Round 1 is released

Daily Registration

A tournament Hospitality Desk will be set-up at each golf course.
Players will be required to check in at the Hospitality Desk prior to their round to collect their Live Scoring device, scorecard, local rules, etc.
Players will be required to hand in their scorecard and Live Scoring device at the end of each round to the Hospitality Desk.

The following process will take place to determine which course participants play:

Round 1 – Durban:

Participants can select their 1st, 2nd or 3rd options of the course they want to play.  Courses will be allocated on a first come first served basis. 

Players will be notified 1 month prior to the first round of their allocated course.

The full list of tee times per golf course will be published on our website.

All participants will also be notified of their tee time via email and SMS as well as on our website as stated above.

Format: Betterball Stableford (plus both scores to count on the Par 3’s)

Please Note: Golf carts are included at Zimbali Country Club but no spotters, golf carts and spotters are included at both Mount Edgecombe Country Club and Durban Country Club

Round 2 – Port Elizabeth:

The highest ranked players on the leaderboard will be allocated to the highest ranked golf course.

Announcements for Round 2 will be communicated on the ship on
Thursday 2 April 2020 – venue and time to be confirmed closer to the event.

The full list of tee times per golf course will be published on our website.

All participants will also be notified of their tee time via email and SMS as well as on our website as stated above.

Format: Betterball Stableford (hidden jackpot holes)

Please Note: Golf carts are included at Wedgewood Golf and Country Estate but no spotters, golf carts and spotters are included at Humewood Golf Club and Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Round 3 – Cape Town:

The highest ranked players on the leaderboard will be allocated to the highest ranked golf course.

Announcements for Round 3 will be communicated on the ship on Saturday 4 April 2020 – venue and times to be confirmed closer to the event.

All participants will also be notified of their tee time via email and SMS as well as on our website as stated above.

Format: Combined Stableford (both members of the pair to count)

Please Note: Golf carts and spotters are included at all 3 golf courses: Royal Cape Golf Club, Erinvale Golf Course and De Zalze Golf Course

As per the itinerary, the prize-giving and gala dinner will be held at the Westin Hotel in Cape Town on Sunday 5 April 2020.

VERY IMPORTANT: Requests for arranged 4-balls will only be considered for the first round. Thereafter, tee times and 4-ball allocation is done strictly as per the scores.

Scoring:

  • The event will feature VPAR Live Golf Scoring http://www.vpar.com/tournament-service
  • Each 4-ball will be given a VPAR device at each course for live scoring.
  • Players will be able to view the real-time leaderboard live on the golf course on the device, at the halfway house and in the clubhouse at the end of the day.

Golf Carts and Caddies:

Shared golf carts (per pair) and 1 spotter per 4-ball are included in each round (unless otherwise stated above).

Halfway House:

Grab-and-go halfway house is included for each round (excluding drinks).

Handicaps:

If a player does not have an official club handicap at the time of the event, that player will be required to play off their last official handicap.

If a player has never possessed an official club handicap, they will be required to play off a maximum of 18 for men and 24 for ladies.

The tournament organisers reserve the right to verify all handicaps.

Players will be required to submit their scores on the national handicap network within 24 hours of completing their round.

Those players with unofficial handicaps will be subject to handicap adjustments by the tournament organisers.
